Human Trafficking and Refugees: March 23-27

Human Trafficking and Refugees
March 23-27, 2009

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WEEKLY THEME:

Human Trafficking: Human Trafficking is a form of modern day slavery in which people, mostly women and girls, are abducted, deceived or coerced into situations of forced labor, including agricultural and industrial production, domestic service and sex work.

Human trafficking includes buying, selling and moving people from one location to another against their will, and it constitutes a grave violation of human rights.

Human Trafficking has just recently passed Arms dealing on the list of illegal businesses; it now is second only to drugs, and it is threatening to pass drug sales.

The above picture is of children being exploited for labor in Afghanistan, they are tilting bricks on their side after 2 days of drying.

Did you know?

A 2007 report by the United States Department of State discovered that in India children are being sold and exploited for less than the price of many animals, such as the buffalo.

Between 600,000 and 800,000 victims are trafficked across international borders each year, this is a worldwide problem.

One million to four million kids are trafficked into slavery every year, and there could be as much as 30 million slaves in the world presently.

This is happening now and NOT ONLY IN 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES! There was a Child Sex Trafficking arrest in Oregon February 19, 2009. You can read it below.
