Celebration of Academic Excellence
April 6-10, 2009

Join UB’s Undergraduate Academies as we support the fifth annual Celebration of Academic Excellence on Tuesday, April 7, 2009!!

What is the Celebration of Academic Excellence?

“The Center for Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (CURCA) showcases the work of top undergraduate researchers and their faculty mentors each year during a formal poster presentation, which is part of the campus-wide Celebration of Academic Excellence. The campus community is invited to view these undergraduate posters in the Center for the Arts Atrium.
Student presenters are nominated by their Deans to participate in the Celebration of Academic Excellence. Each decanal area is asked to go through their own selection process and supply a limited number of undergraduate student works. In limiting the number of student presentations from the various undergraduate schools, a wide variety of scholarly and creative works are able to be showcased. During the Poster Presentation, top student works are selected and those students are honored, along with their faculty mentors, at the afternoon's formal program.”

What is the Center for Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (CURCA)?

CURCA is an office on campus that assists undergraduate students in linking with faculty mentors who are willing to involve undergraduates in their research and creative activities. It covers all disciplines from the “hard” sciences, to social sciences, the arts, and business.

They offer services that allow you to:
· explore the current research opportunities available. There you will find application requirements and links to faculty mentors who are conducting research and offering undergraduates the opportunity to explore alongside them.
· find out about national and international scholarship and fellowship opportunities offered through UB, and see why an undergraduate research experience would be vital to your application.
· learn more about past undergraduate student research and creative work and see what interesting projects were displayed at the annual Celebration of Academic Excellence research fair.
· apply for Student Research Awards, a process that mirrors the grant application process your faculty researcher goes through when looking to fund their project. By applying through this formal process, you will gain valuable experience in grant writing and if your application is approved, you will have earned additional funding towards your research or creative endeavor.

Check out their website (http://curca.buffalo.edu/) for more information and valuable links that will show you how to get involved in research and creative activities as an undergraduate!

The University at Buffalo is committed to student engagement through research and creative activities, service and leadership that afford students opportunities for merit based recognition.
